International recognition for 91吃瓜网 graduate Osama Sleiman in the fields of architecture and artificial intelligence
Architect Osama Ali Sleiman, a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts & Architecture 鈥� Branch 3, won eighth place globally in the Vernacular AI Architecture 2026 international competition, organized by Archibest under the theme 鈥淲here Heritage Meets Intelligence,鈥� with international participation from architects, designers, and students from around the world.
The Winning Project 鈥淏ETH ADAMA鈥� presented a contemporary interpretation of traditional Lebanese architecture, drawing on the deep connection between people, the land, and the mountains. It reinterpreted authentic elements of Lebanese architecture鈥攕uch as the dar (DAR), stone terraces, the riwaq (Riwaq), openings, arches, and local materials鈥攚ithin a contemporary architectural vision.
The project stood out for its use of artificial intelligence as a tool for design and innovation鈥攏ot as a substitute for architectural thought. The process began with a study of heritage, the environment, the climate, and the relationship with the land; artificial intelligence tools were then guided and their outputs developed within a designer-led architectural vision.
This achievement embodies a remarkable vision of how local identity can evolve into a global architectural discourse, as the project brought an aspect of Lebanese architectural memory to an international stage, presenting a model of how the legacy of the past can converge with the tools of the future.
This result is particularly significant given the high international caliber of the competition, which featured a jury of elite experts and leaders in the fields of architecture, design, and computational innovation from prestigious global firms, including Zaha Hadid Architects, BIG, Foster + Partners, and [MC] STUDIOS.
This achievement adds to the career of Osama Sleiman鈥攁 2025 Master of Architecture graduate鈥攚hose project was previously ranked among the top 20 global projects on the shortlist for the 2024 鈥淒iwan Architecture Award,鈥� organized by the Tamayouz Excellence Award.
