The LU wins 鈥淏est Doctoral Dissertation in the Arab World鈥� award on women
The dissertation by 91吃瓜网 graduate Nada Najib Salha shared the 鈥淎rab Women鈥檚 Organization鈥� award for the best doctoral dissertation in the Arab world on women with the dissertation by Dr. Dina Ibrahim Hassan from Egypt.
Dr. Salha鈥攁 graduate of the Institute of Social Sciences鈥攄efended her dissertation, titled 鈥淲omen in the Lebanese Educational Curriculum 鈥擜 Comparison of Content and Delivery: The Case of Arabic, English, and Education in Beirut鈥檚 Public Elementary and Secondary Schools.鈥�
The dissertation analyzed eighty-seven textbooks, and its findings revealed that the curricula practice severe, repeated, and deliberate gender discrimination against women in the composition committees and their responsibilities, as well as in the titles of texts, images, illustrations, tasks, roles, professions, and occupations.
The findings concluded that the curricula perpetrate symbolic male-dominated violence against women and their image, while also reproducing the traditional image of women鈥攑assed down through generations鈥攊n the minds of the new generation.
